Every year at Christmas I find myself crying while watching The Polar Express (anyone else?).
This movie moved me deeply when it was released, to the point that my parents immediately bought me the cute little ornament that came out shortly thereafter (for those that aren’t familiar, it’s the little bell from Santa’s sleigh).
So here I was the other day, watching and crying again. And it prompted me to share with you why this movie is so moving for me. Surprise, surprise…it’s something I both struggle with and help other women heal from.
The whole premise of the movie is about believing. Believing in Santa, learning that seeing isn’t believing, and that having this belief (aka faith) leads to amazing moments and experiences.
For me, the emotion and tears flood in because I miss that child-like belief we all used to have. Not necessarily the belief in Santa, but believing in humanity. More importantly, believing in ourselves.
I know firsthand how hard this world works to knock us down. From family trauma, to kids teasing us in school, lies we believe from the media and ‘mean girls’, to toxic people in our lives convincing us of things that aren’t true…it’s really hard to believe in ourselves (or humanity for that matter).
So this month’s reminder is to believe in your amazing self.
Believe in your amazingness.
Believe in your God-given gifts and talents.
Believe in your strength and tenacity.
Believe in your inward and outward beauty.
Believe in your ability to heal.
Believe in your ability to conquer and overcome.
Believe in the love that you deserve to receive.
Believe in the power of your words and your thoughts.
Believe that you are worthy, lovable and enough.
Believe that you are capable of soooo much more than you think you are.
As children, we believed in miracles. We believed that magical things could happen. Hell, we believed we could fly while on a swing set.
What would happen if you harnessed and reclaimed that amazing belief, and used that energy to manifest the things you want in your life?
Whether you’re riding an amazing high, or are in a season of waiting and praying, believing in yourself (humbly, of course) is one of the strongest ways to combat the negative energies of this world and embrace the life you were born to live.
I believe in you. And I’m working on believing in me. Every. Single. Day.
Wishing you a season of believing…in yourself and God’s incredible miracles.
Merry Christmas, y’all!
“Faith [aka belief] is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1
Important Side Note:
If you find yourself wrestling with depression, anxiety, and/or grief this season, please know that you’re not alone. I’m in no way asking you to push past your feelings and try to believe in something that you don’t feel is possible.
I encourage you to talk to someone you love AND trust about what you’re feeling.
Because while what you’re feeling is very normal, it’s not something you have to deal with alone.
In the meantime (if you’re open to it) close your eyes, put your left hand on your right shoulder, put your right hand on your left shoulder, and picture me giving you the biggest hug. My heart goes out to you and is with you.
Are you struggling to believe this season?
That’s ok! You’re certainly not alone.
